The Chicago White Sox entered the offseason looking to trade superstar outfielder Luis Robert Jr. and ace pitcher Garrett Crochet. Early in the winter, the White Sox made a significant move by trading Crochet to the Boston Red Sox in a blockbuster deal that brought in a valuable return of prospects. This transaction should give White Sox fans some hope heading into 2025.

However, Luis Robert remains on the roster. Eventually, the White Sox will need to lower their asking price, or they risk not finding any takers for Robert.

If Chicago reduces their asking price, the Pittsburgh Pirates could emerge as a potential suitor for the star outfielder.

Acquiring Robert would provide the Pirates with the offensive talent they need. Pittsburgh is looking to build a competitive team around ace Paul Skenes, who may be one of the best pitchers in the league and is under contract for the next several years.

Adding an outfielder capable of hitting 30 home runs and stealing 30 bases would be the perfect move to entice Skenes to remain with the Pirates beyond his rookie contract. While he is currently under team control for a while, the Pirates need to have a plan in place for a potential extension.

This proposed deal would send three top-ten prospects from the Pirates’ organization to Chicago in exchange for the controllable outfielder.

Johnson, 20, has a career slash line of .239/.390/.406. Although his batting average isn’t ideal, his OPS approaches .800, and he hasn’t turned 21 yet. He possesses true five-tool potential.

Harrington, 23, is one of the best prospects in Pittsburgh’s system. He has performed exceptionally well since turning professional, demonstrating multiple effective pitches and solid command.

Jebb, 22, is a talented shortstop prospect. While he may not project as a power hitter, he has a solid hit tool. However, his limited slugging ability gives him a high floor and a low ceiling as a prospect.

The NL Central is wide open this year. Although the Chicago Cubs are very talented, the Pirates could begin to close the gap with a strategic move like this.
